Recycled Letters: Type Pop-up Shop
Hot on the heels of my last post about display letters for sale, I visited a temporary shop that opened in Clerkenwell, London this week offering a collection of vintage signage letters and unique furniture. Open only until the 17th of November, Something Or Other have put their usual online items on display in a physical location.
Proprietor Jonathan Parkin has been collecting the letters from all over, building reclaimers, salvage yards and eBay. There are some great objects here: the blue ‘A’ shown above is from the old Barclays Bank signage. The craftsmanship and intricacy of these individual letters (I think based on Clarendon) is stunning - and to think that they were created in their hundreds to brand all their branches is astonishing.
Jonathan has been restoring some of the letter with lights - I couldn’t resist buying the ‘R’!
